Le Spectacle
Wednesday 13 May 2026
Lise Bellynck and Frédéric Aspisi came to the Lion d'Or to present a sensitive documentary about their journeys between France and Africa.
Their plan at the time was to create a show to be performed once again in that other land.
The two travellers promised to come back with a story, and here it is!
Between theatre and travel
After many years of shared creation on stage, Lise Bellynck and Frédéric Aspisi chose the camera to extend their research into acting, presence and encounters.
In their third film, "Le spectacle", they are both actors and spectators in a travelling theatre performance staged in the villages of Mauritania. It's a mix that continues their theatrical research and the questions they ask about their relationship with West Africa and the world.
Questioning the world
"Night and day - I could see straight away that you were with the elements," says a man walking through the space where we are rehearsing the show - a sandy plot in a district of Nouakcho, between the school and the mosque. We can't see his face, hidden by the traditional haouli. He promises to come tomorrow for the performance. Tomorrow or any other day... Tomorrow or another day you'll find us in the towns and villages of Mauritania, where we put on a touring show: an open-air stage, daylight on our faces, the burning sun, waiting and finally starting the show... stopping, then starting again and finding in the eyes of the audience, in the pleasure of performing, the questioning of the World, past and future.
Running time: 01:09
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with the directors and a book signing for "White Man", written by Frédéric.
Ages 6 and up.
