Every year, the patron saint’s festival in Sainte-Croix-en-Bresse brings together locals, visitors and volunteers for a long weekend filled with conviviality, good food and entertainment. The village will come alive with a programme of festivities for young and old alike.
The festivities will kick off on Saturday evening with a cosy get-together at the refreshment stand, complete with platters of appetisers to share. This will be followed by the traditional country-style meal, lovingly prepared by the volunteers. On the menu: a gourmet starter featuring melon and Serrano ham, followed by Flu’s traditional speciality - the famous ham cooked in a bread oven, served with a gratin - before rounding off with dessert and coffee. For those feeling peckish, the snack bar will also remain open throughout the evening.
At 9 pm, the sky over Sainte-Croix-en-Bresse will light up with a fireworks display, before making way for music and dancing. The band KEEP ON will provide the entertainment for the evening with their festive set list, inviting people of all ages to take to the dance floor.
Come dawn on Sunday, the atmosphere will change but the energy will remain just as high. From 5 am, the huge flea market will welcome bargain hunters, collectors and curious visitors. With nearly a kilometre of stalls every year, this event has become a must for lovers of bargains and unusual finds. Volunteers will be on hand from the early hours to serve coffee and corniottes, providing the perfect start to this long day in the best possible atmosphere.
Throughout the weekend, the fairground rides will delight children and adults alike. As for food, snacks will be available throughout the festival, whilst a country-style meal will be served on Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime.
Following its success last year, the pedal-go-kart race will be back, open to both children and adults! A specially prepared circuit will allow you to compete with family or friends in a sporting and fun atmosphere.
With culinary traditions, fireworks, music, a car boot sale, attractions and family challenges, the parish festival of Sainte-Croix-en-Bresse promises a generous and lively weekend.
