Cuiseaux

Classified as one of the most picturesque sites in the Saône et Loire since 1982 and former stronghold which has always belonged to Burgundy, Cuiseaux is a city with character. It has preserved some remarkable sites in its centre: some ramparts, a gate dating from the 12th century, a General Hospital, some houses in the Renaissance style, a square fringed by arches, fountains, Saint Thomas church and the cemetery chapel (a classified landmark from the 15th century) and finally the oil factory Jaillet and the house of Cuiseaux Memories. It is hometown of the painter Edouard Vuillard and cradle of the Puvis de Chavannes family.
