The river Seille

The river Seille was a very important axis of communication especially for the business of the salt and the sheets.
The river is navigable on 39 km between Louhans-Châteaurenaud and La Truchère. It was channelled by Emiland Gauthey at the end of the 18th century with the creation of 4 locks.
A few kilometers before the confluence with the river Saône, it forms a natural environment where you can find a large number of migratory birds and endangered botanical species.
Nowadays the river Seille is reserved for the boaters and the kayakers. It is a quiet place and the crossed landscapes have still a wild side.
This river is also famous for fishing including the catfish (silurid) and the carp.
